avast killed my defrag program

I installed avast to try it out and went to run my weekly defrag, auslogics Well avast popped up saying the program contains a trojan horse virus and now it does not run . I get this error now, below

The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000022).Click OK to close the application

Anyone know what it would say that a defrag program as a virus with it?

Avast made too much false positives, uninstall it and install Norton anti-virus/internet security 2010.

I understand that and told avast not to-do nothing and it still caused the program to crash, and that is what i do not understand..Only way i would install norton is if you pay me :)

Microsoft security essentials is good. I've been installing it on all of the computers that I don't use that often, or when I format somebody elses computer. As soon as the free copy of NIS10 I got expires I'll be switching to it myself.

ya i like the Microsoft security essentials deal but,The Msmpeng.exe was topping out around 150k or higher and I do not like that and i have been unable to shut it down while im playing games,So im tried avast which seem to use much less cpu/ram but if it going to kill programs when i tell it to do nothing then it not going to work for me

MSE FTW! AVG Free was slowing everything way down. McAfee is the devil.

The best anti-virus is a vigilant user...

I haven't used an anti-virus program in years.... somewhere around 4-5 years. I have had no issues with viruses either.

You might ask how I know I don't have them, if I dont' have a scanner? ... I keep pretty close track of system processes and can spot a rogue one using un-warranted cpu and memory.

I'd suggest un-installing avast, reinstaling your defrag program, and just be a cautious (intelligent) surfer.

... last step is optional... you can re-install a virus scanner after but the real way to fix it would be completely get rid of avast then completely reinstall your defrag program. Good luck!

This.

Though I recommend installing Microsoft Security Essentials since it allows you to scan individual files. It takes up practically no resources (5.5Mb RAM on my system), its free and once you install it it basically just disappears until you have a virus. No ads, no pop-ups, nothing.

Probably a solid suggestion on top of mine... I haven't tried MSE yet but plan to in the future if a need ever arises... I have heard good things about it

The best top 10 defragment software

Hello,

I suggest you check out the Top 10 Defrag Software programs, I have tried two of the programs on that list TuneUp and O&O Defrag, if your looking for just defrag then I suggest O&O but TuneUp is simply amazing with optimizing everything.

Hope this helps :afro:
