8400GS overscan/underscan adjustment missing

I'm using an 8400GS outputting SDTV via s-video. Since it's just an old SDTV, I'm running 800x600 but 1024x768 looks no better. Basically, I have some massive overscan problems, ie the output from the card is about 10-15 % bigger than my TV will display. I've been searching here on on google for a solution but haven't found one. It seems as though the latest nvidia drivers don't offer over/under scan adjustment in nvidia-settings like the old 96xx series drivers did in back when I used an old 440MX that finally died. I've read about writing custom modelines to correct this but have yet to find a useful guide.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Re: 8400GS overscan/underscan adjustment missing

Nvidia added overscan compensation in 190.36:
Add a new OverscanCompensation NV-CONTROL attribute, available on GeForce 8 and higher. This option specifies the amount of overscan compensation to apply to the current mode. It is measured in raster pixels, i.e. pixels as specified in the current mode's backend timings.

Try the latest 190.42 driver. Also, NTSC only has 480 visible lines, so you might want to drop down to 640x480.

Re: 8400GS overscan/underscan adjustment missing

Thanks for the reply. I'm running 190.42 but can't get this parameter working. I found this thread but adding it to my ~/.nvidia-settings-rc has no effect (tried values of 2, 10, 50, 99 and they all looked the same).

EDIT: Nevermind, it's in the GUI. Thank you for pointing me to this. A setting of 50 is a great compromise for me!

There should be a slider in the nvidia-settings GUI for it. Do you have an old version of nvidia-settings installed?
