Quad SLI 295 issues

Hopefully someone with a pair of these cards can chime in...

Having serious heat/fan issues with new quad setup. Was playing 2k10, and the 295 fans--on auto--are going full bore, then I get a BSOD. Haven't seen the blue screen in a long time. I have a well ventilated case and my single GTX 295 was very quiet. Now both fans seem to want to ramp up quickly. Any suggestions from quad SLI vets?

Oh so you did end up getting a second one? Damn. Pics of setup? Oh and hopefully you get your issue resolved :)

Mind starting up evga precision and recording the temps you're seeing?

I'm curious what qualifies as "too hot" because I've been seeing with my 285 temps in the 80's and 100% fan load and it never has issues.

Also, have you tested the new card alone to isolate whether or not that's an issue?

i would check the second card you got, i had a similar problem with a setup i did for a friend with 2 280 gtx they would overheat and bluescreen tuned out one of the cards was faulty
hope this helps

I'm sure the second card is not faulty unless something happened to it in transport. I might try switching the master and slave and see what happens.

The only other issue is that one card is a GTX 295+ and the other is stock clocks, but I don't see why that would cause heat issues.

What are the temps when it blue screens? Only think that would be an issue with the + being the primary is if the other card couldn't handle the clocks that the + is running at.

Use EVGA precision and enable Show in On-Screen Display, and choose GPU1 and GPU2 temperatures...

I switched the cards, and the problem seems to be corrected. Played a round of 2k10 and the fans stayed at a normal quiet speed. We'll see how it goes.

IIRC when you have to unmatched cards the primary card will control the clock speed for both. So it might be possible that the 2nd card was overclocked to match your first card, causing it to not work right. (Basically the same thing bacon said)

Yes, that might have been it, but I'm surprised it caused such a disruption because 1) the clock speeds aren't that disparate, and 2) I even tried underclocking the fast one to match speed. Apparently the underclocking didn't work. :|

Seems to be okay for now.

DB, you may send me a spare watercooling setup in the mail, kthxbai.
