Dualboot XP / Edubuntu - which first.

I can't remember what I did 2 years ago when I last installed 2 OS's on a PC.

Which OS should I install first?

If you want GRUB to handle the boot menu install XP first. I always install each on separate Hdds though and switch in the bios.

If you're confined to one hdd though you obviously can't do that. But GRUB has come a long way and should configure most of the menu.lst for you, but don't be surprised if you have to manually configure it.

You could install XP then use the Ubuntu Installer for Windows.

It looks like it takes care of all the things you need to dualboot. Very interesting.

Yea it does that pretty well Vin, install XP first and let grub handle the bootloader.

Windows first, ALWAYS. Anyway when you install any Linux-based OS, the GRUB bootloader is the one to take over the bootloading process, so the usual partition order is:

[PARTITION]
Windows XP
/swap
/boot
/

(or if you tend to customize the ubuntu-derivative installation)
Windows XP
/swap
/

Yup.

Not sure if it's even a necessity any more, but I always created a small FAT32 partition as well, just a couple of gigs for shared files. But that was back when NTFS read/write support was dodgy. I understand it's much better now.
