Unreal Engine 4 games still a long ways off

http://www.blogcdn.com/news.bigdownl...1266970573.jpgEpic Games introduced us to their Unreal Engine 3 game development tech in 2006 with the release of the Xbox 360 version of Gears of War. Since then the engine has been licensed by a ton of third party developers for first person shooters, third person action games, fighting games, MMO titles and more. Last year Epic released the Unreal Development Kit that allows people to make UE3 games for free (if they don't plan to sell them; if they do Epic gets a share of the money).
It's been over three years since the release of UE3 so naturally some people are wondering when Epic will launch the next version of their Unreal tech. Kotaku gets word from Epic's VP Mark Rein who states that Unreal Engine 4 is still a ways away from its public debut. Rein states, "Unreal Engine 4 is designed for the day we get massively multi-core processors." There's no word on how many cores Rein means when he says "massively" but we can bet that the four processor cores in some high end PC gaming rigs won't be enough.Unreal Engine 4 games still a long ways off originally appeared on Big Download Blog on Wed, 24 Feb 2010 17:00:00 EST.
