Enable DMA on nforce410 on Centos

I gave a system running Centos 5.2 on a system that is Nforce 410 based (Emachines T6216).

Everything installed and works fine except that it is slow. hdparm -tT /dev/hda gives me 1455 and using dd I get 2.5 MB/sec rates.

I am using a PATA drive that supports UDMA5. (Seagate ST3160021A)

I installed these 2 rpms also to see if it would help, but I still can't turn on DMA,

nvlan-rhel5u1-0.62-1.25.i686.rpm
nvsata-rhel5u1-3.4-1.25.i686.rpm

[root@centos54 rpm]# hdparm -d1 /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)

What can I do to get DMA enabled. This is just my scratch box for testing citrix changes but it still wastes alot of my time going this slow when my other systems do 183 MB/sec while this putts around at 2.5 MB/sec.

Come on now....somebody has to have been through this and actually found an answer. It's older hardware so there should be no secrets left !!!

What are "my other systems" you refer to? It could be a Bios/Kernel quirk with your HD or the controller. Look in 'dmesg' for anything interesting with your drives and that you have the correct kernel modules installed for your motherboard.
