CUDA Parallel Computing at NAB

Yesterday we told you what NVIDIA is doing at NAB in Las Vegas. Today we're going to give you an overview of what some of our partners are showing, and how they're leveraging Quadro and the CUDA parallel processing architecture.

Adobe's newly-announced Creative Suite 5, Premiere Pro CS5 with the Mercury Playback Engine was developed on the CUDA architecture and is accelerated by NVIDIA GPUs.

ARRI, the largest manufacturer of professional motion picture cameras and accessories, utilizes CUDA-based GPUs for real-time debayering (decoding an image from a Bayer matrix to a full-color picture).

ASSIMILATE's SCRATCH v5.1 digital process solution has support for CUDA-based plug-ins. SCRATCH v5.1 is a streamlined, real-time, end-to-end pipeline for pre-and-postproduction.

BlackMagic's Davinci Resolvecolor grading system uses CUDA as the foundation of its CUDA Optimized Resolve Engine (CORE). DaVinci Resolve runs on a cluster of computers leveraging high-performance GPUs.

Cinnafilm, a leader in GPU-based format conversion, leverages CUDA for motion estimation, video retiming, and dust and dirt removal from film. Cinnafilm recently extended support for NVIDIA GPUs.

Elemental Technologies, a provider of massively parallel video processing solutions, utilizes the Quadro Digital Video Pipeline as a cornerstone of its Elemental Server. With Elemental Server, content providers can rapidly serve an array of different resolutions and bit rates required to support traditional PCs, mobile devices, and set'top boxes. Elemental Server is designed to compress video live using CUDA.

MainConcept is a global supplier of video and audio codec solutions for multimedia, consumer electronics, and broadcast and professional video production. By supporting CUDA C in the new H.264/AVC Encoder SDK, MainConcept provides developers with a way to quickly and easily add the benefit of GPU-based video encoding to software programs.

Silicon Imaging specializes in the design, manufacturing and marketing of HD digital cameras and image processing solutions for the medical, scientific, machine vision, entertainment, and surveillance markets. The CUDA architecture accelerates Silicon Imaging's real-time debayering and color correction.

TDVision's technology allows 3D content to be acquired directly using TDVCam or other stereoscopic camera. The content is then encoded and deployed over existing digital pipelines using TDVCodec, without any loss or detriment on the image, handling full HD per eye and fully compatible with legacy decoders.

The Foundry is an award-winning visual effects software company whose products have facilitated sequences in movies including Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, and District 9. CUDA technology is used by the Foundry in Kronos 5.0, a GPU-accelerated retimer and motion blur plug-in for After Effects, based on the Furnace algorithms. The plug-in offers faster render times, thanks to hardware acceleration.
