Nvidia legacy 71.86.13 and video playback to XVideo
5 Attachment(s)
Before saying the word "problem" let me firstly thank nvidia developers for their respect to open-source community and for all the work they do with for us.
Now, that's what i need help for:
After i installed debian lenny and the latest legacy nvidia drivers (at first installed from the debian packages and then replaced by the official *.run), my video playback is slow, takes 100% CPU time and, if the video file is some bigger than eg 720x576, there arrive strange dots or bars in the video output. I've tried xine and mplayer, mplayer has a bit better peformance but it still doesn't reach the level on my previous install (it was debian etch with 71.86.01 nvidia driver) while the bars are still there.
I've made a photo of my computer's screen to demonstrate that (software screenshot didn't catch XVideo output).

I am using a relatively old machine (PII 350 MHz) with NVIDIA Riva TNT2 graphics card, but it still was able to playback such videos easily on the older system...
I attach several files, the names are self-explanatory.
Thanks for your attention,

do you need composite? if not, try to disable it so that the nvidia drivers uses overlay for xvideo instead of textured video ;)

I've already disabled it by adding the following to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "Extensions"
        Option  "Composite" "Disable"

But i notice a strange thing in my Xorg.0.log:
At fist it says

(**) Extension "Composite" is disabled

But below:

(II) Initializing built-in extension XFree86-Bigfont
(II) Initializing built-in extension RENDER
(II) Initializing built-in extension RANDR
(II) Initializing built-in extension COMPOSITE
(II) Initializing built-in extension DAMAGE
(II) Initializing built-in extension XEVIE
(II) Initializing extension GLX

Maybe that could be the problem?

Also i've noticed that after installing the drivers, after X starts up the cyrillic letters on my /dev/tty* don't show correctly anymore. However if i boot without X, the fonts are ok.
What could that be?
Thanks in andvance,

I have also noticed another important thing i'm not able to scale the video down! When i try to do so, players' windows just crop the video...
Of course, this happens only with XVideo output, but using any other isn't a solution in my case because of old CPU which really needs the video card's help.
When i used older drivers and kernel on my previous system, all seemed ok...
I just don't know where the change happened...

The only thing i can do is try to install the old system back and test it to see if it's really software issue, but i can't do this right now. However, i'll post here when i'll try that.
Thanks for reading all this,
Best wishes,

I still love open-source!:)
