the WEI is Nvidia friendly

For two radeon 5970's, it gives a 7.9 in windows 7. For one 5970, it gives a 7.7. For two gtx 480's, it gives a 7.9. So, that means by microsoft standards that two gtx 480's in sli are more powerful than a dual gpu 5970 in single. I guess by microsoft standard that they are showin some love for the Nvidia!

In the reviews I`ve read the 5970 and GTX 480 are fairly equal with a slight edge going to the GTX 480 so I don`t see any bias by Microsoft.

You mean a 5970 and 2 GTX 480s in SLI right? Because a single 5970 owns a single GTX 480 pretty hard except in some special cases where the larger framebuffer of the GTX 480 comes into effect. Two GTX 480s will beat a single 5970 though. But maybe MS is NVIDIA-biased, as I remember my GTX 280 SLI getting a 7.9 as well. Doesn't take too much to max out the WEI graphics score nowadays I guess.

yes, one 5970 vs. two gtx 480's. And if you're two gtx 280's in sli get a 7.9 then wei is definitely nvidia "friendly" because it takes two 5970's to get a 7.9 for amd/ati cards.
my friend thinks that cuda cores are more adopted for video editing and accleration than the amd stream processors. He is also changing to nvidia with two gtx 480's because most of his video editing apps have cuda acceleration in them to encode video faster and he feels more comfortable with nvidia cards. He also had a 5970 like I did. Actually I had his 5970 along with my former 5970 card in crossfire. But I had to split them up because of some games not liking crossfire and I had to take out one card just to install windows 7. This is because windows 7 would freeze on the final part of install with two 5970's in. And in some cases (red faction guerilla) I had to disable cataylst ai which disables one of the gpu's on the 5970 just to play the game. That was the only stable way to stop the flickering in the game. I installed the gtx 480's with a fresh windows 7 install (had to make sure there were no ati/amd remnants left over along with flashing my ssd's) and there were no problems. (and that was with a gts 250 physx card too!) Another "friendly" aspect of windows 7 for nvidia. Don't worry, I like the fact that MS is favoring nvidia for these reasons.

3 of my HD5870 gives me 7.8 and i believe crappy 2D performance is causing that.

I get a 7.8 on my card. Going from 608-800 had no effect.

maverick, 7.8 is nothing to lose sleep over. You are potentially matching 3 5870's in crossfire!

Wow, it takes a lot just to get 7.9. It was easy to get 5.9 in Vista. My 285 gets 7.4 I think.

Is not 7.9 the max though?

OP - are you not splitting hairs here?
