gtx 480 users, what speed (% wise) do you have your fans at?
I was wondering because my p6x58d motherboard (and soon to be p6t7 supercomputer) don't have a cards width of space between card 1 and 2 of my sli setup. My 1st card at stock fan speed idles at 65c. My second card idles at about 48-49c. When I crank the fans to 100%, my first card idles at about 47-48c. My second card idles at 36-37c. I was wondering what the 480 users are doing with their fans with such heat in terms of % usage of your gpu fans.

Stock (44%) ranges around 44-46C and full load 86C (65%). With a custom fanprofile that raises the speed in a more linear way I have obviously the same idle speed/temp but under full load its 75C at 75%.
I only have a single 480 and two slot space between the card and the X-Fi. |

I just leave mine on auto. Highest fan speed so far is 68% that gives me a high of 89 degrees.

I used Afterburner to create a new fan profile. My cards idle at 44c and 41c @ 45% fan, and then ramps up with the temp from there.

well, I found my magic numbers for my 2 cards. It seems high but not 100% like I was 1st using. Card 1 is at 86% and card 2 is at 89%. that keeps my idles at 48c and 36c for cards 1 and 2 in order.

Using Afterburner with custom fan profile. Idle temps are mid 40s and the PC is quiet when doing anything not game-related.

Re: gtx 480 users, what speed (% wise) do you have your fans at?
Stock fan profile. idle temps around 51c, load temps in furmark 91. Highest I see the temps get in games is 93c. In furmark temps will reach 95c first then drop down to 91c after a while.
Room temp 70F. This is a 470 not a 480 didn't catch the title :) This is with new thermal paste on the stock cooler shin etsu. |

ADVANCED FAN CONTROL SOFTWARE Having read discussions in the GeForce GTX 400 Series Forum on advanced fan control software, I definately had to check out MSI's Afterburner utility. This handy utility allows custom fan profiles to be created. The interface is pretty slick and consists of defining the fan speed (by percentage) based on the GPU temperature. For example, the following readings are from running the Furmark stress test for 120 seconds with the default fan profile of the GeForce GTX 480. The topmost graph reports GPU temperature, the middle graph reports GPU usage and the graph on the bottom reports on the fan speed. Prior to launcing FurMark, the readings were: Start of Test GPU Temp - 54° C GPU Usage - 0% Fan Speed - 44% End of Test GPU Temp - 95° C GPU Usage - 99% Fan Speed - 87% http://www.nvnews.net/articles/gefor...an_control.png GPU usage increased to 99% after launching FurMark. After 120 seconds, the GPU temperature reached 95° C. Looking at the fan speed graph, we see that it remained at the default setting of 44% for almost 60 seconds and quickly ramped up to 87% by the end of the test. This exercise was interesting as I spent over an hour testing with Furmark before completing my custom fan control profile, which looks like so. http://www.nvnews.net/articles/gefor..._fan_speed.png Here are the profile settings: GPU Temp - Fan Speed 50° C - 44% 60° C - 50% 65° C - 55% 70° C - 60% 80° C - 68% 85° C - 75% 90° C - 85% 95° C - 90% The results, after 120 seconds of running Furmark, are quite impressive! Start of Test GPU Temp - 54° C GPU Usage - 0% Fan Speed - 44% End of Test GPU Temp - 87° C GPU Usage - 99% Fan Speed - 79% http://www.nvnews.net/articles/gefor...an_control.png MSI's Afterburner is a must have utility for owners of the GeForce GTX 480. |
Re: gtx 480 users, what speed (% wise) do you have your fans at?
That's what I've been telling people. Using the default profile makes the cards get too hot, too fast and then there is no cooling them down. A simple Afterburner profile (which still runs automatically for those who don't know) reduces both your temps and fan speeds by a decent chunk.

Running my GTX 480's in SLI with my GTX 260 SC right between them, it's nearly impossible to keep this cards cool enough on air
I have to play Metro 2033 with the side cover off and a mid-sized house fan blowing on its highest setting pointed right at the 3 cards. And that's with all 3 cards running at 100% fan speed  I will still see 100°C on the first GPU. |
