(VDPAU?) noise on screen.
 

Hi,

I would like to let you (nv devs) know about what seems to be a driver bug.

First, i can't give any steps to reproduce. It happens too rarely.
I've never seen that before vdpau enabled drivers (180.06?).
It seems to happen after several days (or weeks?) of driver run. When it happens, It seems to happen after switching a vdpau window to fullscreen (the screen "freezes" for some seconds, then unfreezes and noise appears).
What happens is that a lot of "noise" is drawn on screen (all windows). The more i move a window, the more it's noisy (a window repaint cleans it). It's also visible on video, where i see moving black and white dots, very similar to analog noise.

That looks very similar to noise I would see when my video memory was overclocked too much.

Don't know if that helps at all but maybe something vpdau memory related?

This indicates that some form of problem occurred on the GPU as was recovered from. Sometimes the recovery process isn't perfect, and can subsequently lead to the kind of corruption you're seeing.

I assume these XID messages also appear right when you make a VDPAU window full-screen? Can you provide full details on which app and version you're running (well, I can probably guess the app...:-), the file you're playing, method of switching to full-screen, desktop environment (e.g. compositing manager or not) etc. Thanks.

No.
- Kubuntu 10.04
- Kaffeine-0.8.8 + xine-lib-1.2
- Composite extension enabled (well, not disabled), but no compmgr.
- Fullscreen method : http://doc.qt.nokia.com/3.3/qwidget.html#showFullScreen

I don't remember what i was playing each time it happened, but IIRC the last time (when i made screenshot and bug-report) it was some DVB channel.

If you need more infos, maybe you could give me a complete list of required step/infos and i will follow it next time it happens (if any:)

That's odd. Are you able to tell when those XID message do occur? There's certainly some driver or HW problem there...

When I asked about the "fullscreen method", I meant what key-/button-presses in the application.

Really dunno, no such messages after 4d 9h 24m uptime.

Double-click on video toggles fullscreen. Or Ctrl+Shift+F.
When the bug is going to happen, the window goes fullscreen, screen freezes for some seconds showing the previous outputsurface in top-left and the remaining area contains black and white dots, so i know (from experience:) that the bug is going to show immediately. I can't say for sure, but i think it happened with others gpu as well. (Yes, i'm pretty sure now, since i received the gt220 in january and i've surely seen the bug before)
