Auto Fan Settings
I have a GTX-285 and I'm sick of listening to the fan all the time. I usually keep it around 75% while gaming because I thought with the auto setting on, the card ran too hot, around 85-90. IS the 85-90 degree temp ok for these cards? You would think that it is since the manufacture sets it that way but man is that hot. What do you guys think?

Re: Auto Fan Settings
Usually 85-90 won't hurt anything except your fingers. My 280s would artifact in the mid 90s. I like 70s better.

Re: Auto Fan Settings
I like it in the 70's too but the card is so noisy. Just worried that @80+ I may be stressing the card too much. However like I said, the manufacture sets it this way so it must be ok.
Thank you for your input. |
Re: Auto Fan Settings
Mine run about 65-75 under heavy load. 40's when cruising. I'm not a big fan of anything over the low 80s.

Re: Auto Fan Settings
Get MSI Afterburner and set up a fan profile that only kicks it in high when you need it. I use it on my SLIed EVGA GTX 260's and love the customizable fan profiles, way better than EVGA's software.
My temps are 36c to 43c @while browsing with fans a 40%, after 45c speed steps up by 1% for 1c of rise until 65c it goes to 70% after 70c it steps to 85% but never had either card over 70c even while running composer for 1hr at 1680 x 1050 full screened. My temps are usually about 50c to 60c while gaming. Of course I understand that you have a 285 which runs hotter than a 260, but you get the idea of the fan profile customization and how it helps in cooling. Good case airflow and monthly cleaning are necessary too. |
Re: Auto Fan Settings
Here's what I use and rarely see temps over 80c.

Re: Auto Fan Settings
Glad it worked for you. It's a useful app. Did it take care of your noise and temps issues?
I also like the temp displays in the task bar, and if your worried about temps while gaming the OSD is pretty cool. |
