Refresh rate specified in xorg not applied until nvidia-settings is run

1 Attachment(s)
Hello, I have an issues with setting refresh rates.

We have a RHEL5.3 box with a Quadro 4600 running nVidia Driver 195.36.24

One output is connected to an NEC flat panel at 1920x1200 50Hz which is fine.

The other output connects to a DLP projector which we want to run at 1920x1080 @24Hz.

In xorg I specifty a twinview setup and assign the displays as follows:

Code:

Option    "MetaModes" "DFP-0: 1920x1080_24, DFP-1: 1920x1200"
I.e. I am specifically assigning the @24Hz mode to the projector.

When I start X, both screens come up at the requested resolution, but the projector comes up at 50Hz.

If I then run nvidia-settings, suddenly the correct refesh rate is applied and the projector detects 24Hz. I don't have to touch any settings, just starting nvidia-settings is enough.

Anyone any ideas what might be causing this?

I have poked through the X log (verbose mode) and it validates the modes I am trying to set and thinks they are set. xorg file attached.

Cheers
Nick

run
Code:

nvidia-settings -l
at your DE/WM startup

Hi Licaon,

Thanks for the suggestion. I could do this as a work around, but it would be better to find out why it is not selecting the mode in the first place. Surely I should be able to set it all in the xorg?

Any other ideas?

Cheers

This is probably the result of the "Force Full GPU Scaling" option, which is enabled by default. You probably have it disabled in your nvidia-settings config file, and loading it with -l makes it turn it off.

You can configure it in xorg.conf with the FlatPanelProperties option. Set "Scaling = Native" for the DFPs in question.

Aaron, you hit the nail on the head!

I added:

Option "FlatPanelProperties" "DFP-0: Scaling = Native"

And it comes up in 1920_1080_24.

Thanks so much for your help.

Nick
