Installing nvidia drivers on RHEL5
I have been attempting to install the nvidia drivers on a Dell T3400 running RHEL5 (32-bit due to issues with legacy drivers). Have been trying to use the nvidia install document but it is very sparse when dealing with errors.
First issue that I encountered was that RedHat has its source code in a different location than what is expected; got around this by creating symbolic links for both the kernel source code and headers rather than using the --Kernel-Source-Path option; gets to the point where it attempts to perform the build (make modules) (from ../kernel) and the error that comes back is that there is no rule for modules.
I'm very green with Linux, but it seems like this is a lot harder than it should be. What am I missing

Re: Installing nvidia drivers on RHEL5
You shouldn't have to create a symlink.

Did you install the kernel-devel and headers?

yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers

There are also nvidia rpms available from the atrpms repo

Re: Installing nvidia drivers on RHEL5

Yes, both are installed, but not in what I presume to be the standard location (e.g. /usr/src/linux); they are currently in /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-128.el5-i686. I used symlinks rather than specifying the path using the --kernel... options. Downloaded the NVIDIA driver directly from them.... (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.35.run).

Re: Installing nvidia drivers on RHEL5
I would suggest you to use
http://elrepo.org along with rpmfusion.org for EL
