VDPAU error messages

I have old machine and want my graphic card to use its ability (Nvidia PureVideo) to help playing hd videos. I installed vdpau library and vdpauinfo but mplayer cannot played video. I upgraded my nv driver to 256.44 but still no video, only error messages that i cannot understand.

Configuration:
Video Card: Inno3D Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS
System: Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
Kernel: 2.6.32-24-generic
Nvidia Driver: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 256.44 Thu Jul 29 01:30:36 PDT 2010

Here is the message from vdpauinfo (mplayer says same):
Code:

VDPAU is not supported by your GPU.

I am going to cry...

So I bought this video card because i read on nvidia page this: "the GeForce 7600 GPUs bring high-definition, home-theater quality video to the PC through the acclaimed NVIDIA® PureVideo™ technology."

But it is not supported? Fake information or i don't understand anything?

How can I play HD videos with this card? Or maybe I must change my card? Is there any vdpau supported agp nvidia card?

Re: VDPAU error messages

VDPAU != PureVideo

No AGP cards support VDPAU, but there's PCI cards that do. Look for Geforce 8 cards on PCI.

Thx for help. I was looking for PCI Geforce8 but it seems it is not available in my country. And I think it is very expensive :) I have a plan. My computer is good for me, except hd videos, so I will buy a mediacenter to play films and it will be cheaper than a new machine :)

What kind of CPU do you have, anyway? It might be good enough for HD stuff with a multithreaded decoder (i.e. ffmpeg-mt).

Re: VDPAU error messages

FYI, the README included with the NVIDIA driver clearly spells out which GPUs are supported by VDPAU.
