will bios mod'ing powermizer levels crash the driver?

Hi

My card (260M) never goes above powermizer level 1 in linux. It works fine in windows, so I know it's not a heat limit or something.

Since this has been broken since I got it I'm seriously considering grabbing nibitor and changing the power mizer levels to 0 and 1, instead of 0,1,2,3. Either that or changing all voltage and speed levels at level 1 to be the same as level 3.

Will stuff like this screw with the driver, or should it work? Has anyone done anything like this?

Messing with the BIOS is a tricky bussiness, there are some risks.
Try the latest 256.52 driver too and read http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and generate a good report with the debug info as instructed after the issue appears

I've generated loads of debug info, and haven't gotten any feedback yet, so I stopped.

I'm considering that it might be a problem with the fact that it's a mobile card. The 260M is generally a 75w card, the one in the m15x is a 65w.

Works fine in windows on oem drivers though..

Wow, this bug is still around? Yeah, go ahead and mod it with nibitor if you know what you're doing. I had to do the same thing a couple of years ago when I had the same problem with an AGP 6600GT, and it worked fine.

My only worry is that powermizer 1 is used by stuff like playing movies (even with xv), and occasionally just compiz use as well. I don't want to end up having the computer loud on normal desktop use :/
