Senate Passes Bill Banning Loud Commercials
http://consumerist.com/assets_c/2010...x223-44754.jpg Everyone hates loud commercials, which is why Senate Republicans and Democracts were able to agree on something and Wednesday unanimously passed a bill banning them. The bill would require commercials to be broadcast at the same sound level as the programs they're interrupting.
As the commercials and shows come from a range of sources, from syndicated national programs to local car dealerships, getting them on the same loudness standard will be a challenge and TV stations may have to get new equipment.
The House has already passed a similar bill. The two bills will be reconciled after Congress reconvenes.
