Recommend Nvidia card for i5

Hi,

will be purchasing a i5 650 based desktop machine with original intel motherboard.
Kindly recommend a 1 GB nvidia based graphics card to support full HD with hdmi port as want to connect full HD lcd as display.

Regards
Sarvesh

Ok, but what's your main intent with that system? Gaming? CAD? Programming? Office tasks?

If you want an NVIDIA card with 1GB of RAM could be something from a 9800GT to something more modern like a GTX460... you need to be a bit more specific, guesswork is a bit difficult without any further info :P

I wouldn't just rush to get a GPU just yet, the prices are going to be flying around a bit, mostly going down and ATi is going to be release its 69xx series as well soon, and Nvidia will follow up soon as well.

At that resolution... hmm... better get a GTX460, the 450 Intel17 recommended you is more than fine for just home use but if you intend to do some gaming on 1080, I'd recommend you getting the 460, it's more expensive but it will offer you smoother gameplay (192SPs on the 450 vs 336SPs on the 460).

I'm currently using a Cooler Master RealPower M620, rated at 620W (continual) so... something like that and you'll be more than fine, at least mine is not giving me any problems :P

XClio 500W Goodpower, 2 years, 3 rigs, plenty of overclocks, still going strong, still for sale for around $50 @ Newegg.

There are some decent deals on GTX 460 1Gb cards to be had. I'd investigate those. If you overclock and want a cool quiet card, get that.

It's only 10usd over most regular 460 1Gb cards. I wouldn't be surprised if it could do 850 on the core with Afterburner and hold respectable thermals. TPU tested one and got 848 on the core with a load temp of 58C.

I would not go for anything less then GeForce GTX 480 , i like this MSI Twin Frozr II edition.

Re: Recommend Nvidia card for i5

GTX 480 is not a card for the "maybe gaming" demographic. Too hot, too power-hungry, too late in the game. Good card, but only for certain discerning gamers.

GTS 450 FTW or GTS 460 768 would be the best bet as far as NVIDIA cards are concerned.

On the AMD front, HD 5750, 5770, 5830, 6850 and 6870 are good candidates for the right prices.
