Wayland

Ubuntu just announced that it will switch from x.org to Wayland. I wonder how likely it is that nvidia will support Wayland in the near future?

According to this the only two things a Linux graphics driver needs to support for Wayland are:
  • A way to set the graphics mode (like kms, but it could also be a standalone library)
  • A way to share video memory buffers (for example an EGLImage) between processes

I know that KMS is not (yet) supported by nividia. Is sharing video memory buffers between processes supported?

Re: Wayland

This switch is only for mobile devices.

There's nothing to worry about.

Re: Wayland

As far as I know they want to switch the normal Distro too.
HOWEVER, quote from Mark form his "blog/website":

And as for network connectivity, thereís sufficient time between now and then for these problems to get solved.

So it want be a fast switch...

You better read the forum carefully as such topic is already being discussed here.
