broken MB fan w/springs

Hello, I have a problem with a heatsink fan on a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. I went to add a couple of sticks of ram and bumped into the spring/cap and it went jumping out of the case.. but i found it..

So the question is if it is able to be fixed in anyway? thanks for any help.

I would pick up another fan like this one in the link below (make sure it's for a chipset, i.e. a northbridge/southbridge)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-155-_-Product

Then take out the motherboard, and if you turn it over you can see the plastic plugs on the opposite side from the broken fan. Clip those pieces of plastic to get it off. Clean off any thermal compound on there, then reapply some new thermal compound, and install the new heatsink/fan.

I did it a while back with on of my boards which had a chipset cooler fan die (it was really loud). It was pretty simple and fixed my problem. :)

I remember that mobo. I read so many bad reviews on the SB fan I replaced it before putting it in my PC.

If you're careful and the little post the spring sits on is still in tact and long enough to poke through the back side of the mobo, you can very carefully take a hot knife blade, or some other flat hot peice of metal and mushroom the end so it still retains. I've done that when I had the same problem.

how fast will the MB reset the pc because of the heat you think?
I got home this afternoon and hooked up everything again and it started up and spent about 60 seconds after getting into the desktop before getting a blue screen of death and started to restart itself again and again before i turned it off..

I wouldn't run that without a fan on the chipset. I recommend you replace it before you use the computer.
