GTX 280 BFG Tech (Sweden) -2008-2011 (Crash)
Hello !

I bought my computer at the end of 2008, payed about 18 500 SEK (Swedish currency, will get you to about 1850 €) (Taxes included ofc)
Now i've been using this computer for a duration to and from 2-3 years. Very happy once i got it bla bla, no problems until now.

When i played CoD Black Ops, the screen went all texturish and got stuck, so i had to hardreboot it (pressing the poweron/off thingy) So i thought this might've happened due to some heating etc, never overclocked it or anything. So quite simply a clean computer.

And it happened over and over, whenever i jump into any game except WoW (World of Warcraft MMORPG)

So giving it a 5-10 mins break letting it cool down a bit but not to much because it might be something with the card letting it cool of to long and it might give cracks etc, out of my own extensive experience in gathering ifnormation which i've been now for over 3-4 days, in contact with the company who sold it warranty issues etc.. The card went for around 550€ (5500 SEK) at the time of it's shiny days. Before 285 and the other were released.

Now that i've given it some break it still crashes on games, but now something weird happens, it crashes on whenever i launch a video, trying to optimize measure something with that has with the GPU, CPU to do it crashes, and it sometimes wont let me try to reboot, giving me the Pink, Yellow, Green, Red, Orange all kinds of colours..

So i entered Safe Mode just to see if it was virus etc.. All worked well, did a scan nothing happened, tried safemode with network connection on, no problem there, so whilst doing this i was on the phone speaking with a friend whom is an expert in these kind of situations, so he told me it might be the graphiccard.. i went omg,lol,wtf.. you know the drill, pray to god it might work now etc.. but no,no,no... i removed the Geforce 280 drivers, got the new, and nearly all the older versions no improvement, (so i took the **** for granted that my damn card might've died but fan keeps turning :O)

So after putting Win 7/ Vista at work no improvement.. Still the same crap, computer works fine without the graphic drivers, but it's the same **** since i can't play since there is no hardware davice driver that can support this n that and the computer dont fail since i've removed the drivers from the system..

Cheched and rechecked the power suplies etc.. nothing new.. so is there anything i could do other than just smash it and buy a new one or to an insurance **** that might help ?..

Sry for posting such a huge wallpaper of text but i really dont want to see my computer/gpu or anything die out in such a small period of time, telling me this i would just not buy this crappy card ever again or from nVidia which i regretfully must do since i want to play again.. ATI etc.. dont like to work with me hand in hand.. since i dont want to spend extra money on more **** that most likely wont work on my Computer..

Here are my com specs taken from -> Run -> DXDIAG, if you want me i could post the whole file etc..

EDIT: Take notice that my graphiccard driver isn't activated since that would just crash the computer and dont let me post this.. :P

Thanks at hand for tips/tricks etc.. :(

Re: GTX 280 BFG Tech (Sweden) -2008-2011 (Crash)
Welcome to the forums. Sorry you're here because of an issue like that. It feels like the world is coming down on your shoulders when your first computer part dies and it happens to be expensive.

Your card is dying. There's no doubt about it. It sucks that BFG Tech went out of business, too.

It happens. My 8800 GTX died after 2 years of use, and my replacement 9800 GTX+ died after only one year. That 8800 GTX cost me $570 new, and it died. It sucks, but that's computer tech for you. The only saving grace was that it did have a warranty on it and I was able to get a replacement.

All you can do is buy a replacement card. Pay attention to the warranty period, and buy a card for a company that is stable and been around for a while so that if it does die, you can get a replacement for it. Get a warranty for the card that matches the length of time that you intend to use the card.

Good luck bud. Hopefully you won't have an experience like this again. :o

Re: GTX 280 BFG Tech (Sweden) -2008-2011 (Crash)
Update: Yeh thanks for the tip was really crying my pants out.. ^^

Anyhow, i got the new EVGA card Geforce 580GTX SLi double (quite new for me gg)
also changed the whole computer, spent around 1000€ on it, got the new I7 980 i believe and asus III rampage etc. and a new nätaggregat (energisupplier i guess dunno quite shady in some of those areas of telling the correct names etc)

But i found a lot of valuable information on this site which im gratly impressed by and quite negative on nVidia because **** breaks all the time :P

But computer upp n' running as it has never been running before. 5 years of warranty (or the better one that i have to pay each month for)

But thanks and i'll be in touch if it ever explodes again :P
