GTX 460/465 upgrade from Radeon 4850?

Hi all,

My friend just got a new 1080p display, and is thinking of upgrading to a better graphics card from his Radeon 4850 512mb. Would a GTX 460/GTX 465 be a worthwhile upgrade from a 4850?

Regards,

I own a 460. I upgraded from a 9800gtx+, which is roughly equal to a my old 9800gtx. It was a fantastic upgrade. Make sure your friend learns from my mistake and gets a 1024mb version. If he can spring for it, the 560ti great.

If you can get a GTX 465 that will flash to a GTX 470 then Thats what I would go for ,since you can be certain all will flash to a GTX 470 ,then I would get the GTX 560Ti since in most cases it is as fast as a GTX 470.

Anand has a place where your can choose cards and compare them.

Also Hexus.net compared the GTX 560 vs the GTX 460 1Gb at the same clocks.

If I were moving from a 4850 I'd probably get a 560 with a decent cooler and swing at 950-1000 on the core. I believe the 560 SOC in the Hexus article is @ 1000MHz.

Went ahead and got it. He's very pleased with the performance increase. Got a 460 768mb.
