Incomplete eld files with GT425M for HDMI audio

Hi

I'm running Nvidia video on Sony laptop with the GT425M gpu. I'm using the latest driver, 260.19.44. and graphics are fine.
I understand this gpu can run HDMI audio and it is shown with the usual 'aplay -l'

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

I'm using alsa library 1.24.1 and kernel 2.6.38.2 , but I have incomplete ELD info, i.e. no monitor recognised. E.g.

grep eld_valid /proc/asound/NVidia/eld* gives:
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#0.0:eld_valid 0
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#1.0:eld_valid 0
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#2.0:eld_valid 0
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#3.0:eld_valid 0

There are no messages in Xorg.log about HDMI audio or in the kernel boot up logs

Can someone point me in the right direction here, I've trawled Google for an anwer with no luck.

My Nvidia bug report is attached.

thanks
