Can't get HDMI Audio working with new GT430

1 Attachment(s)
I've installed an new Zotac GT430 in my HTPC but so far I'm not having any luck getting HDMI Audio working. I've tried several different things to try and make it work but so far no success. It appears as though its not requesting info for the modes supported, when I examine the Xorg logs I see this:

Code:

[    13.357] (--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce GT 430 at PCI:1:0:0

And checking the ELD data I see its not showing a connected monitor, which seems odd. My 210 card works just fine and detects my ELD info without a problem and passes audio through without any issues.

Code:

monitor_present                0
eld_valid                0
monitor_name
connection_type                HDMI
eld_version                [0x0] reserved

I've updated to the latest NVidia drivers on my XBMCLive based machine and installed both Alsa 1.0.24 and the latest kernel 2.6.38-5 but so far I'm having no luck here. Attached a bug report as well.

Rip an audio track from a cd. Play it:
Code:

aplay -D plughw:1,7 track.wav
the device numbers are from:
Code:

aplay -l

Results of aplay -l are below:

Code:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

The GT430 has a GF108 chip, I can't see the alsa side drivers listed yet. Sorry.

It looks like you're only seeing one of the outputs: there should be four. Most likely the output that's showing up is the wrong one for your HDMI port on that board. Have you set a probe_mask? If so, try unsetting it, so that all four outputs show up again. Then take a look at the ELDs to see if perhaps you need to mask a different output.

Removing the probe mask shows all the outputs, but that still didn't seem to be enough. Once I updated my alsa install to the latest nightly snapshots I can now get audio out on plughw:0,9 using speaker-test and aplay.

Okay, thanks for the update. Does PulseAudio work after setting a new probe mask to reflect the correct port? (Should be 8 for hw:0,9.)

Re: Can't get HDMI Audio working with new GT430

Well I don't use PulseAudio on my XMBCLive machine since ALSA gets the job done fine, I reset the probe mask to the correct value for this card and ALSA works fine anyway.
