Need help purchasing an SSD...
My budget is £250 and i am looking for a drive with good reliability and performance.
With all the new drives that are out, i have no idea which one to go for  |
Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
I've got 1 of these:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...14&subcat=1427 and can highly recommend it. Other than that... the Intel one looks good: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...14&subcat=1427 but thats assuming you have Sata3. I steer clear of OCZ after a month of arguing with them over a compatibility problem with their Vertex 2 drives. |
Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
I found this on behardware:
Components returns rates SSDs - Intel 0.3% (against 0.6%) - Kingston 1.2% (against 2.4%) - Crucial 1.9% (against 2.2%) - Corsair 2.7% (against 2.2%) - OCZ 3.5% (against 2.9%) |
Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
I was thinking of getting a OCZ Solid or Agility 3 but now not so much.
Could it be just more idiots buy OCZ and **** them up? Not you Jon :p |

In the meantime: http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/for...-Vertex-3-SSDs Another great start for OCZ! |
Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
Stick with Intel, clearly the better drives at the moment but pricey.

Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
Its a crap shoot. Just make sure it has a good warranty or exchange/return policy. My Sandforce 2 unit went bad after 2 weeks.

Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
I got two Vertex 2 Drives and I have had no issues once I switched them to my desktop. Great SSD!

Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
I went with the Intel 510 240gb and its great!! Look on new egg you will see the intel SSD's have a far less fail rate compared to the OCZs, thats the main reason I went with Intel.

Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
I've got a bunch of "old" Intel X25Ms running and they are great. While the write performance isn't stellar (I don't very much care for that) reading and application loading are still in a range to kick butt of the "new" 6Gbit SATA drives :)
And if I need more performance I'll RAID'em up (2 sitting on the shelf waiting to get deployed). Still expensive: € 325-330 for a SSDSA2MH160G2C1. |
Re: Need help purchasing an SSD...
Personally I think I'll wait another 6 months before thinking about SSD's, Maybe then they'll be affordable and reliable.

At my client site, they run SANs with hundreds of spindles, the sysadmins here are constantly replacing failed HDDs. |
