BBC HD quietly begins broadcasting in 1080p

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/23/b...t-all-sony-hd/

I researched that before May 2011 that none of TV channels worldwide were transmissioned in 1080p signal. It seem that BBC HD are now the the first TV channel to begins broadcasting in 1080p for HDTVs equipped with Freeview HD.

Pity my Sharp HDTV in my bedroom and dad's bedroom Sony HDTV only got Freeview but dad new Toshiba 40 inch HDTV got Freeview HD built-in. I got Virgin Media V HD cable box, hopefully it will have option to switch to 1080p signal through future V HD software update. :)

That's awesome. Currently a lot of channels here are 1080i, and some are 720p. I think it's sufficient, but would love to have free 1080p broadcasts hehe.

1080i can be easily de-interlaced by your TV to be 1080p. Dunno about other areas but I know that 5 of the local stations here have been broadcasting in 1080 since around 2003.
