275.09 Freezes, the same as 270.XX

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I can confirm that the same behaviour exposed by 270.41.06 and following drivers is present also in 270.09.
Basically, desktop freezes after some operations like windows resizing (but not limited to this), sometimes this is preceeded by some artifacts like random small squared dots all over the screen.
This behaviour was mitigated (or at least seemed so) even if not resolved by modifying
-#define QUEUE_SIZE 512
+#define QUEUE_SIZE 4096

in xorg-server-1.10.1/mi/mieq.c
but in xorg 1.10.1.902(that I'm using right now) it seems to be already so.

Kernel: 2.6.39 x86_64
NVIDIA GPU NVS 3100M (GT218)

attached the usual bug report file.

I'm also having the same problem. Not sure if this is a bug in nvidia drivers or xserver.

I get most crashes when gmail manager in firefox opens up a new mail window.

I got some backtraces, maybe they are useful for nVidia developers. If you need more data, contact me in private.

It is clearly some kind of overflow.

Hello cova,
Which desktop environment you are using: kde OR gnome (version also)? desktop effects / compiz is enabled ? We observed this kind of issue with on Kubuntu 11.04 and investigating it as well.

Re: 275.09 Freezes, the same as 270.XX

It's possible I'm having another issue, but is seems to be quite similar. My whole desktop freezes and X is pegged at 100% CPU for a while. I'm still able to SSH into my machine and get some debug info, but killing X doesn't help anything and I have to reboot the machine top be able to use it again. I'm very successful at reproducing the issue by starting GTK version of Emacs (emacs package in Arch linux repos), it happened once with LibreOffice Calc. All driver versions from 270.41.06 up seem to be affected.
I'm running self-compiled 2.6.39 kernel with BFS scheduler, distro is Arch64, KDE 4.6.2, 9800M GTS, Core2 T9550.

I can get this info from dmesg
Code:

EDIT: It looks like disabling desktop effects help, I just tired launching Emacs like 20 times and no freeze (tested on 270.41.06).

Yes this seems like infinite recursion. I'm hitting the problem often.

Sorry for getting back so late and thanks for the answer.
here the data:
kde only, version 4.6.3.
Desktop effects are enabled; I've yet to see the same problem with effects disabled.
the distribution is gentoo, so kde is compiled on the same machine.

I've seen similar problem on a very similar installation, speaking of packages (same revision of gentoo) but a fairly different hardware, AMD with 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C77 [nForce 780a SLI] (rev a2)

(bug report attached). I have desktop disabled now as I have to work on the latter system, but when it happened the desktop effects were active.

I can make, to some extent, experiments if you need more data, no big deal.

Thanks for the answer!
