Can't build driver under Ubuntu

3 Attachment(s)
I was running a Mythbuntu machine fine with an EVGA nForce 730i motherboard, GeForce 9300 on-board video. Things went downhill after the machine unceremoniously lost power. X server would not boot, repeated messages about the display disappearing after about a second in the logs, etc.

I've tried to re-install Mythbuntu along with re-installing the Nvidia drivers. This has fared less than optimally as well. The driver install fails with the following message in /var/log/nvidia-installer.log:

Quote:

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb, nvidiafb, or nouveau is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel
module from obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s), or
NVIDIA GPU installed in this system is not supported by this NVIDIA
Linux graphics driver release.

Please see the log entries 'Kernel module load error' and 'Kernel
messages' at the end of the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for
more information.
-> Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './kernel/nvidia.ko': -1
Cannot allocate memory
I'm at a complete loss at this point as to what's happened. I've attached the only logs I can see that are relevant.

Can anyone point the way towards a solution?

Re: Can't build driver under Ubuntu

No idea what caused this but it seems the solution was to add "vmalloc=256M" to the GRUB boot line.

Once this was added I was able to build and install the Nvidia driver without issue.
