Due to security reason we are unable to download image file. Please provide file as attachment OR upload file somewhere else. Also do some more experiments and let us know reproduction steps for this issue.

Loading where, how, what exactly flickers?

I'm 99% sure it's not his particular image related.

Wow, wow, wow!

All Linux applications here cannot load this image. Instead of the image I see some garbage.

Irfan View under Wine has no problems loading it.

And I also see this error:

Code:

(WW) NVIDIA(0): The NVIDIA X driver has encountered too many errors.  Falling
(WW) NVIDIA(0):    back to write-back cached memory.

Most likely it's not GPU related - it's a problem with drivers.

sandipt, you can download this image here.

Is this some kind of joke that I'm just not getting? I can open this image just fine with any photo viewer application. I use Gnome 2.32 and Nvidia 270.41.06 with a 9500GT card. I opened this image in gthumb, gimagereader, eog, xnviewmp, gimp, you name it..

Re: While loading attached image file, gnome desktop flickers.

The problem, at least for me, is just Firefox.

With Firefox I get garbage (like artem's screenshot), but with other apps (Gwenview, Gimp, ShowFoto, Okular, etc) I can open the image just fine (like mocharhw).

Edit: I noticed 8 error messages in dmesg like this: "NVRM: Xid (0000:05:00): 6, PE0001" but I don't know if they happened while loading this image or while playing a video with the newest flash.
What is more worrying is that I managed to crash X by opening this image various times (Xorg restarted). Here's the log:

Re: While loading attached image file, gnome desktop flickers.

Maybe effect depends on libjpeg version (and kind - there are ABI-compatible SIMD-optimized replacement from libjpeg-turbo and [older jpeg-simd])?
Maybe running running image viewer and djpeg -dct float <image.jpeg >/dev/null (same with -dct int and -dct fast) in valgrind (and valgrind --tool=exp-ptrcheck) will give more insight (you'll need debug info for libjpeg for that).
Maybe it's not particular image, but just specific image resolution?
