280.11 seems to break google earth for me

Hi,

As I am a gnome 3 user, I upgraded to 280.11. Since then, I cannot start google earth anymore (segfault at starting, a gdb backtrace pointed me directly to libGL).

I'm using a 64-bit version Linux, and dowgrading to 275 makes google-earth work again (and gnome's extension area not work again).

Has anybody got the same symptoms ?

What distro are you on? On some distros, 32-bit video acceleration, which Google Earth uses since it's a precompiled 32-bit binary, comes in a seaparate package. Depending on how your distro does things, your 32-bit support paclage may still be at version 275. Upgrading it to match 280.11 may solve the problem.

I'm on 64-bit Arch Linux here (I'm a Gnome 3 user as well), and Google Earth works fine for me with 280.11.

Same, archlinux-64 here…

lib32-nvidia-utils-beta 280.11-2
nvidia-beta 280.11-1
nvidia-utils-beta 280.11-1

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Being on the same distro made troubleshooting this one dead easy: the PKGBUILD you're using is defective somehow. When I installed a lib32-nvidia-utils-beta package built with it, Google Earth segfaulted on startup. Build with this one instead http://pastebin.com/QAVVW1qZ and Google Earth will work. It's basically the official Arch PKGBUILD for lib32-nvidia-utils with the package renamed and with the version bumped to 280.11. I've already posted about this in the AUR entry for lib32-nvidia-utils-beta http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19453.
