Upgrading 260GTX to ???
Just being a little curious this morning and looking to see how "smart" it would be to upgrade my 260GTX to say a 465GTX or some 5 series. Now my only constraint would be a $150 limit, don't really want to pay out the ying yang for a new video card TBH. With games like Rage, CoD:MW3 and others coming out this fall, I just thought it would be nice to spend a little $$$ and get a performance boost. BTW, I game at 1680x1050. Any thoughts?
This 465GTX is $120 after MIR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130597 |
Re: Upgrading 260GTX to ???
Be careful, that's GTX 460 SE with less shaders, you wanna get the one with 336 cores.
I play at the same res as you and my 460 has been more than capable to max out almost every game. |

:lol
Honestly, I'm not sure if the 460 will be of any benefit to you bro. If your limited to $150 or less, wait till the next generation come out. The cards in that price range will likely be twice as fast as your 260GTX, give or take a little. When I had my 5770, it was every bit as fast as my old GTX260 Core216... infact it felt a bit faster. I'd probably put my 5770 closer to the GTX275... maybe a tad below it. The 460 is a bit fater than the 5770 so... Yes a 460 would be faster than your 260. Noticeably? Not very often I'd imagine. I'd hold out till next gen. It's likely less than 4 months away. :) |
Re: Upgrading 260GTX to ???
The difference between the 260 and 460 is roughly around 40%, but it can sometimes go even beyond that, especially with higher amount of AA, which the new generation handles much better.
Some examples I found: http://www.guru3d.com/article/starcr...-performance/8 http://www.anandtech.com/show/3809/n...the-200-king/6 |
Re: Upgrading 260GTX to ???
Save another $50 to $80 and get a GTX 560Ti, trust me, the performance is definently worth it. I just came from 2 EVGA GTX 260 Superclocked Core 216's in SLI to 2 EVGA GTX 560Ti SuperClocked ($220 apiece with the lifetime warranty) in SLI and the difference is remarkable to say the least.

Re: Upgrading 260GTX to ???
Due to some recent developments in my personal life, I'd have to say a lot of purchase will be on hold for a while. House is going on the market this weekend if our cards play well tomorrow. Thanks for the advice, I'll save up.

The GTX 465 is not bad ,alot of times you can flash it to a GTX 470.
