Motherboard Suggestions...

I'm ordering a new SB rig tonight and am currently tossed up between MSI and Asus Z68 GEN3 boards but if someone else has a different suggestion SPEAK UP!!!!

Final Build:

Case - I'm going to see how I like the new stuff in the trusty old Antec 900. If it just doesn't suit me anymore I'm grabbing a Corsair 800D

Power Supply - Keeping my Thermal Take 850w Black Widow. It's been rock solid

Sound Card - X-Fi PCI-E

Video Cards - 2x GTX570 2560MB

CPU - 2500k

CPU Cooler - Zalman CNPS9900MAX-B

Memory - 8GB G.Skill 1600 (even though in a 64bit environment 4GB is a bit faster)

Motherboard - (help)

Asus or ASRock.

Both make some pretty cool Z68 boards. :)

I did a similar build but went with a gigabyte UD3-Z68 board. No complaints here, works flawlessly. Doesn't have that fancy new UEFI bios thing but I heard most of those are half ass and harder to navigate than a old school bios anyway. Not to mention, I'm used to old school bios after 12 years of it. Running my 2500k at 4ghz for a while just to get it burned in and settled, then plan to crank it up towards 4.5 or so. 4ghz has 100% stability so far, with 8hrs prime95.

UEFI is awesome. click advanced mode and get all the same options the old wore out bios gave you.

The UD3 is a very good board. You shouldn't have any issues there. In fact, i've built 4 PC's for friends in the last few months and used that board in 3 of those builds. Not a one has had anything go wrong.

The UEFI bios is nice as you are able to use a mouse, but it's far from a deal breaker IMO.

I went with the MSI as after replacing faulty board, after board, after board I refuse to buy Gigabyte ever again.

After my EVGA 1366 Motherboard took out my processor and GTX570 I'm never buying another one of those either.

I also stopped down at my buddy's shop and when I mentioned Asus Z68 he showed me the 30+ plus boards waiting to be picked up for RMA and that turned me off from getting Asus.

If the MSI fails... I'll try an ASRock.

IMO... it's really frustrating these days buying a motherboard as I don't really trust any of the companies anymore to deliver a good product for under $400

I can understand that. My EVGA is playing up at the moment. I initially thought it had died. This was an RMA board to.
