nvidia 290.10, monitor put in standby crashes X

1 Attachment(s)
With the nvidia 290.10 driver, when power management turns off just the monitor, then the system basically crashes. One is unable to wake the monitor. The system also stops responding to keystrokes. This does not happen if you put the entire system into standby using pm-suspend...in that case the system and monitor will properly wake.

This does not occur with the 285.05 driver.

I suspect this is a regression because this same behavior was occurring I believe about 2 years ago with an earlier driver....sorry not sure of the driver version or the exact time frame.

Additional information:

Actually all you need to do to replicate this bug is to turn off the monitor and then try to turn it back on with X running and you will get a kernel crash which you can observe happen if you have first switched to a tty virtual terminal. I am using a DVI connection to the monitor.

8500GT card, ACER X223 lcd monitor.

This jogs my memory....this is exactly the behavior that was occurring when the bug was previously present.
