Linux kernel 3.2.0 freeze with 290.10

Hi all, does anyone has troubles with linux 3.2.0 with driver 290.10?

I'm trying linux 3.2 on two different systems and I'm getting two different behaviours.
System A:

Linux kefk 3.2.0 #3 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 AMD Phenom(tm)
VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C77 [nForce 780a SLI] (rev a2)

all works just fine, no problems compared to linux 3.1.X as I was previously using.

System B:
Linux 3.2.0 #1 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 520 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M] (rev a2)

With system B, whenever I start X i get a frozen black display, no other messages. I've yet to check via ssh, but xorg log is simply an empty file. Created but no data inside it.

Anyone with the same problem with 3.2.0 kernels?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

Both systems uses xorg 1.11.3 (gentoo)

Same issue, also a Gentoo system. Doesn't cause problem on my i7 laptop. Freezes up on my Phenom II desktop.

No issues if I prevent xdm from starting. (Nvidia module loads and unloads)

My primary suspect is the IOMMU in my desktop.

You are right on the spot :)

I've done some tests playing with IOMMU support in my kernel.

The option that causes issues seems to be
CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON

If set, the driver locks.

Full IOMMU working conf:

cova@calvin ~ $ zcat /proc/config.gz | grep IOMMU
# CONFIG_CALGARY_IOMMU is not set
CONFIG_IOMMU_HELPER=y
CONFIG_IOMMU_API=y
CONFIG_IOMMU_SUPPORT=y
# CONFIG_AMD_IOMMU is not set
CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU=y
# CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON is not set
CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_FLOPPY_WA=y
# CONFIG_IOMMU_STRESS is not set

Interesting this message from kernel, in working situation:

IOMMU 0: reg_base_addr fed90000 ver 1:0 cap c9008020e30272 ecap 1000
IOMMU 1: reg_base_addr fed93000 ver 1:0 cap c9008020630272 ecap 1000
DMAR: BIOS has allocated no shadow GTT; disabling IOMMU for graphics

Many thanks for the hint!!!

Boot with intel_iommu=off

it is not needed to kill all iommu subsys, at least in my configuration. It is enough to stop default activation.
