5.3GB of memory in use, and all I have open is uTorrent

Never seen such a thing before. 5.3GB of 6GB is in use, and the most any one application reports is 75MB, which is Utorrent. The memory didn't spike until after I started pulling down some torrents, and this is the first time I've connected to torrents since my recent OS reload and SSD install. Perhaps its related to that because I have disabled my page file as well as superfetch, but still I don't know why the system would take that much memory, especially when I can't find it reported anywhere.

Can anybody explain what might be happening here? Must be memory leak but I've not encountered one before. The only changes are noted above, other than than using a newer version of Utorrent than the one I was using previous to the reload.

, looks like it was the torrents, I killed my connection and memory dropped back to normal, didn't even need to close utorrent. I didn't want to have to interupt it because it took forever to get up to speed. Might be time to look for a different torrent program.

I really doubt its utorrent itself, I've never had any issues with it, and up until last month I used it a LOT (now I use usenet for my free sh*t, it's far better.)

Anyways if you killed your connection and the problem went away, then I'd suspect a memory leak in your NIC driver. Torrents generate a large amount of small packets to and from numerous destinations and sources. If you have a problem with utorrent, odds are you're going to have the same problem with other torrent clients as well.

I had this problem with uTorrent too. Out of my 4 GB on my laptop, it was using around 3 GB. When I closed uTorrent, it went down to normal around 1.2-1.5 GB.

Check the max connections allowed. If you're illegally downloading something that's really popular and lots of other loser scumbags are in the torrent pool you can see a big spike in memory use.
