Official Alan Wake Feedback Thread

Remedy Games is planning for Alan Wake to make his PC debut on Steam this February, the company revealed in a lengthy 'Frequently Asked Questions' session on its own forum.

The post also revealed other details, such as further confirmation that the game will not use Microsoft's Games for Windows Live platform, nor will it be available on Mac. Though Microsoft published the game on the XBox 360, Remedy has opted to self-publish the game's PC version.

In addition to self-publishing the game, Remedy notes that they will be "fully supporting the Steam platform," which includes adding support for achievements and Steam Cloud.

In terms of graphical adjustments, Remedy says some details are still being ironed out, but "players can naturally adjust resolution, run in full screen or windowed and change numerous graphics quality settings such as anti-aliasing, FXAA, shadow quality, draw distance and so on." One new feature included in the PC version is the ability to turn the game's HUD off.

Citing a more complex set of tools than those found in Max Payne, Remedy confirms that there are no plans to offer gamers the tools to modify the PC version of the game.

"We are still finalising the optimisations and graphics scalability, so some details can still change," the post reads, when asked about the game's expected PC specs. The "current view" for the game's hardware specifications include:

OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7 (see below for Windows XP)

Processor: A dual core processor is required:

AMD: Athlon X2 2.8GHz

Intel: Core 2 Duo 2GHz

Memory: 2 GB

Hard Drive: 8 GB

Video Card: DirectX 10 compatible or later with 512MB RAM

AMD: ATI Radeon 3650, 4450, 5550, 6450 or higher (per series)

NVIDIA: GeForce 8600GT, 9500GT, GT120, GT430, GT520 (per series)

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible

I would be surprised. It's not via the normal publisher route, so no there really shouldn't be any price gouging. Unless Valve's pricing team recommends such a price jump.

"Both The Signal and The Writer DLCs will be available on Steam and are included in all copies of the game."

Am confused... FAQ says DirectX10 or above, but also says that XP is supported :headexplode:

Hah they made it work for xp after all.. i dont see why they wouldnt since a crap rrod 360 can play the game on stoneage hardware..

Will it support Windows XP?

Yes. We have finished our testing and are satisfied the game works well, assuming the users' systems are configured correctly (we detected some audio configuration problems during testing but nothing that can't be worked around easily).

But what about my Athlon 850 running Windows ME? I've got the latest drivers for my Diamond Stealth S540 PCI 3D accelerator, I've got all the latest updates for Windows ME- IT SHOULD WORK!!!

I swear I'm going to boycott every game they make if it wont work in Windows ME. And I'll make sure to get everybody I know to go along with the boycott. It's all just corporate greed, pushing us and forcing us to pay for "new" hardware and "new" operating systems when what we already have works perfectly fine and is perfectly capable of running this software. I WILL NOT BE THE CORPORATIONS PUPPET!!!!
