[BUG] NVIDIA 295.17 switching to TTY display is turned off, nvidia 8600m
 

Same as with 295.09, after switching to tty1/2/3 the display is switched off and I can only turn it on if i switch back to tty7 where X is.

nvidia 8600M GT, linux 3.2.2 on a dell 1520 laptop

Ask me any information and i'll provide.

Last know version that worked is 290.10

Hi ioni,

If you start a fresh X session and try to switch to VT1 right away, does the problem immediately reproduce? Or do you have to use your computer for an extended period of time before it starts showing these symptoms?

I have several scenarios that I did:

1) right after gdm starts, VT1 works fine
2) after login into gnome from gdm, VT1 doesn't work
3) right after gdm starts, VT1 works, switching back to gdm and then to VT1, doesn't work anymore

Like a site note, every restart/shutdown gets stuck somewhere, with no possibility to find out why and is not a kernel panic since caps/num lock doesn't blink.

FYI, I just dropped vga/video parameters from kernel line and the problem persits. I also tried to change kernels, linux 3.0.20 and linux 3.2.5.

I can confirm this with my hardware too:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1)

I run KDE as a desktop not gnome like the OP if that helps :)

Confirmed for me.
It is not fun at all to login blindly into a tty to try to restart X :/
9800GT with 295.20 here.

What's the latest working driver, is the one just before 295.09?

8800GT, the same problem.

(I'm using Vesa FB to drive text consoles).

Same problem here, with GeForce 8400M GS and 295.20 driver over 3.2.8 kernel (archlinux). Lastest working driver was 290.10 for me as well
