Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

Nothing really "new" to see here. Apple is just bringing more iOS features to OS X, blah blah. I personally think they are heavily working on the next generation of Mac OS and keeping everything under heavy lock and key as these "new features" are weak. Maybe they are waiting for Windows 8 to release. Who knows.

With that being said, IMO, we should see some mind blowing stuff come out from Apple in the next 2-3 years. A new iPhone, new OS, the Pro line of MacBooks going to a more "Air" body style, etc.

One thing I notice on "Game Center" is it appears that we will be able to run iOS games on our Macs. Hope that's true, that would be awesome.

If you have an iOS device and use Message, you should download Messages Beta for OS X. Works great and blends with iChat very seamlessly.

I don't expect 10.8 to cost over the usual $30 but it will be a while (if ever) before I upgrade. Lion is pretty awesome and it works just fine for me.

I don't think OSX will run iOS games with the Game Center. It would be awesome, but I think they are just adding the feature to OSX and making it so games written for both can share Game Center features.

Is the normal OS X release cycle every year? It was 2 years between Snow Leopard and Lion.

Hasn't been a year between releases in a long time. Panther to Tiger was around 18 months, and Tiger to Leopard, Leopard to Snow Leopard and Snow Leopard to Lion were all 2 years. I'm pretty sure it will be closer to 18 months as there is usually more than 6 months from announcement to release. It doesn't sound like a big release though so maybe it will be closer to a year after all.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't like how these desktop aimed OS'es are going touch style. Windows and Ubuntu are doing the same thing, I think it's stupid.

I agree, but it if is done right and I can get my work done/have fun, it doesn't matter to me.

I don't think it can be. Touch interfaces have to be similar in nature to ten foot user interfaces, even if you have a large screen and sit only two feet away. This makes work inherently inefficient. The reason for this is because the more options you display on the screen at once, the less actions you have to take to perform a particular task.

However simultaneously, the more options you display on the screen at once, the more hand movements you have to make on a touch screen or remote control, and your precision is also reduced. Combine that with a complete loss of tactile feedback, and you have problems.
