[BUG] 295.20 breaks Rage in wine and cx
 

Hi guys,

after upgrading to 295.20 rage stops working with wine/cx .
After downgrading to 280.13 or 290.x the game is working fine again.

When you start the game with 295.20 installed you see the rage process running but you dont have any visual output. The rage process is using 100% cpu but doing nothing so far it seems.

Attaching to the process with strace show:s

as last line.

Its very unlikely that this is caused by wine simply cause of the fact there is no d3d->opengl translation done for Rage.

Hi,

someone filed a very similar bug at winehq

you might add your experience.

I'm not a wine dev, without debugging into wine it may be hard to tell, if the bug is in wine or the NVidia driver.

Hi again,

yep, 295.20 breaks more wine apps it seems.
I also cannot use Shogun 2 with wine anymore in 295.20 cause i get an segmentation fault with the app ! Using 290.10 fixes that issues.

I only mentioned Rage cause it is a opengl game and there is no translation which is done by wine which could cause the issue.For me, this is a driver bug.

I play rage once in a while under wine. No new problems, just the texture popping. More frequently I play fallout new vegas under wine.

MIne is gentoo 64 bit
linux 3.2.2
wine 1.4 in gentoo 32 bit chroot
gnome2-light wm
nvidia gtx 550 ti
intel core 2 quad 2.6

Btw, can you get old school games like quake1/2/3 to run in wine? Or their linux native binaries?

well, this is strange. I upgraded to u 12.04 to also have a newer kernel but its still a no go.
The wm does not matter. I also tried wine 1.4, same driver, but i have a gtx 560ti (same chip as your card i guess).

I have no idea why you are not facing this issue, cause other people seem to have it also...

We fixed a crash issue that sounds similar to this and a few others; the next release will include the fix. If it doesn't help this particular case, I'll attempt to reproduce this locally and file a bug.
