Wayland backend cannot be enabled for any platform because of Nvidia drivers

It is my understanding that Nvidia will not support Wayland, but this stance has made it impossible for Canonical to enable Wayland for Intel and AMD/ATI setups.

The x86 OpenGL library isn't built with PIC for performance reasons. These performance problems do not exist on x86_64 and the OpenGL library for that architecture is built with PIC.

Thanks for the clarification.

This is something that might be worth expediting to the ubuntu-desktop team mailing list.

Last I checked, there is considerable interest in having the backend enabled for the LTS.
