In need of an upgrade, advice please

Ive been looking at bundles and wanted to ask your advice as i want to build a good games rig. what do you think of this from overclockers uk:

Krypton Z68 620i Intel Core i7 2700K 3.50Ghz @ 4.40GHz Overclocked Bundle
8GB Kingston Hyperx Genesis Grey 1600mhz

Currently at Ģ465

Ģ500 is my budget for the motherboard, Ram and Cpu. i will buy a new Gpu at at later date. is this a good bundle or can you recommend something better for the price.

One more thing. is my power supply ok? (see below). i assume it is but it is around 4yrs old now.

Many thanks :)

On the graphics card side of thinks i did spot this:
Gainward GeForce GTX 580 "Phantom" 3072MB GDDR5

Any good?? i know its not the latest thing on the market but the 680 can be very expensive :(

get the 2500k bundle instead if its just gaming, 2700K@ 4.4ghz is money down the toilet.

Even if you are encoding ,ffs wait another 10 seconds , who gives a **** lol

A 2GB GTX 680 costs less than a 3GB GTX 580, at least at retail. The 680 is more expensive than a standard 1.5GB 580.

I'm not sure exactly what model your Silverstone PSU might be, but any respectable 850W PSU should be more than adequate for any single card. It's probably OK for two GTX 680s (less power needed than dual 580s).

Is it worth me waiting till new CPU and gpus are released as the items im looking at will drop in price? I hear some are due soon?

I agree! Donīt buy the 580 3GB instead of the 680! 680 is a much better buy than any 580 right now unless itīs much much cheaper and so far thatīs not the case! ;)
Yes, you could wait a bit more and see what comes up and hopefully prices will go down by then. ;)

Are there any historical graphics card price graphs around? I would have thought the price of a 2gb HD6950 would be quite low by now but no, They seem to just sell all their stock at the high prices till there's none left, Its not like ipads.

Re: In need of an upgrade, advice please

Ok ive decided on this as recommended:

Bundle Specification
- CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.40GHz Sandybridge CPU
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68
- RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
- Cooler: Corsair A50 CPU Cooler

But im going to wait a while longer to upgrade the gpu as i said. i dont really want to spend more on the gpu then the bundle im buying even though i would love too.

What i would like to know is will my current gpu be a serious bottleneck on games like skyrim, BF3 etc??

Also i would have liked to go for the 8GB memory upgrade option but on the site it states this:

Note - Please note that adding in additional memory to the spare slots will require new BIOS settings and the maximum clock speed attainable may be significantly reduced. OcUK recommend a quality brand PSU for use with all our bundles such as the Corsair TX & HX range. Updating the BIOS on the overclocked bundle range will void the warranty on the overclock. If you update the BIOS we will no longer be able to provide support for configuring and maintaining the CPU overclock.

I dont want to lose cpu power or am i reading it wrong?

I personally wouldn't worry about it, Just find your own OC, You'd need to reset to stock to flash the bios so they don't want to spend time helping you to OC is all they are really saying.

Ok what should i do? upgrade my gpu to a gtx 680 first or go for the i5 bundle??

Look at my sig for current specs. i just want the best performance gains but i cant afford both right now.

Thanks

I say get the new ivy bridge i5 in 2 weeks..might even be the 23rd as new rumors say. The new z77 motherboards arent very expensive, theres a huge range of them already on newegg.

And here are likely prices for the cpus, about the same as sandy bridge. The 3570k is the replacement for the 2500k
