I can't do 24bit color

Hello,
I have Red Hat version 8.0 and I am kind of new to linux but I did get my GeForce 4 card to be detected but only as a generic card. I can not do 24-bit color with this driver. I downloaded the new driver off of Nvidia's webpage but they just cause my x-server to not load up on my next log on and forces it to start a fresh configuration. I have a 64 meg card w/ tv out any suggestions?

Thank You,

Dustin

I hope you can help I will check the fourm daily

My first suggestion is to read the README file that comes with the nvidia driver...
You will have to install it from text mode.

fatenabu1 09-12-03 03:05 PM

I did do it from the text mode outside of the x-server

russofris 09-12-03 03:45 PM

Read the readme. One of the first things you will note is that.....

Driver "vesa"

should be changed to....

Driver "nvidia"

And there are a couple other things that you need to change as well (Load this and that)

Thank you for your time,
Frank Russo
