black screen on Vaio GRT785 with FX5600

I have a problem with the nvidia driver on this notebook. After I start the x-server with these drivers I get only a black screen. The driver is loaded propperly and seems to work. When I am switching to a text screen, I can see the x-server running. Also on the external VGA-port is no output (same as on built in panel).

Thus, it is like the output is just switched off.

I'm running SUSE 8.2 with a 2.4.20 Kernel and NVIDIA 1.0-4496 driver

Thanx for help

Sounds familiar to me.

On my sony Vaio i´ve got nearly the same problem. i.e. my fx5600go works fine with the standard "nv" drivers, but a black screen ( sometimes with some nice Stars of fragmented text) locks my notebook completely. Just about no time the xserver is started under the newest nvidia drivers in order to activate my open gl support, nothing goes.

Thank to that i got a quite fundamental introduction to the x window system, what covers my lack of knowledge in other parts of linux, what maybe also linked to the fact im using it for aproximatly three weeks now. Its a suse 9.0 installation, and if anyone got a clue what -else- i could do, i can offer to post my XF86Config and the XF*.0.log if needed.
My next guess is the AGP configuration, but that is only a guess from a newb.

If somebody knows a link to some fundamental infos to the options given in the XF86Config I would be very pleased either.

Thanks

I was right its truely the agpgart my nvidia can´t handle.
try switching it of with the "nvagp" option as seen in the readme. it made my card work.

Good luck

Did you diable it or did you use the Nvidia AGP driver?

MeMyself&I: check out the README in /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0 for an explanation of all of the NVIDIA X options.

It works both. DIsable the AGP or using the NVidia Support does fine on my laptop.
