problem building the driver
Dear friends
i am very lazy so i didn't try to install the nvidia driver for my graphic card until...now.
Well i am having problems. I did sogged in as root, switched to runmode 3 and tried to run the installer but it failed.
Since i am using Suse 8.2 professional i tried the rpm solution due to the compatibility issues with prior suse distros. I downloaded the two .src.rpm files and i tried install them with the --rebuild option. The file NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4496.src.rpm failed during the compilation. I had the following error ammong the messages:
+ make nvidia.o

You appear to be compiling the NVIDIA kernel module with
a compiler different from the one that was used to compile
the running kernel. This may be perfectly fine, but there
are cases where this can lead to unexpected behaviour and
system crashes.

If you know what you are doing and want to override this
check, you can do so by setting IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH.

In any other case, set the CC environment variable to the
name of the compiler that was used to compile the kernel.

*** Failed cc sanity check. Bailing out! ***
make: *** [gcc-check] Error 1
+ exit 0

The thing is that the nvidia installer DID fail for the same reason (i had the same messages in the logs). Do you have any ideas?

problem solved
I found a way to tackle the problem and i installed and configured the driver succesfully:)
as root i started the installer like this:

Everything worked fine and sax2 was able to configure the 3d features too!
Keep up the good work nvidia
