295.49 fails on Acer 5755G under Ubuntu 10.04
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All,

First the box:

Computer: Acer Aspire 5755G
GPU: GeForce GT 630M
CPU: i7-2670QM
OS: Ubuntu Desktop 10.04 64 bit
Driver: 295.49
Bug report attached.

Now the symptoms:

First it said "(EE) No device detected", but I fixed that by writing BusID "PCI:1:0:0" in xorg.conf.

Now it shows the ubuntu logo but then hangs. If I change to another virtual terminal and back again, I just see the junk left over from the virtual terminal.

I've seen rumours that this GPU doesn't work under linux, but then the installer should have said so explicitly.

This is a huge problem for me because I can't even use the VGA or HDMI outputs, so I can't beam presentations to customers.

Please help,

In the meantime I fixed some of the resolution nags and it now boils down to these lines in the bug report:

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)
(EE) No devices detected.
