Warning from NVIDia with ubuntu 12.04

How can I configure Ubuntu to avoid the warning below? Will Nvidia in the future add patch to make the console driver compatible with NVIDIA or add a console driver to NVIDIA driver?

[ 36.022201] NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console

Try adding the following options to your kernel command line at the bootloader prompt: "video=vesa:off vga=normal"

If that helps, see your Linux distribution's documentation for information on how to make those options permanent.

The effectiveness of the the "vga" argument appears to be conditional. See http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html#linux. Does this come under the exceptional case where automatic detection and conversion to GRUB commands takes place?

It worked since I do not see any warnings anymore.

Do these boot parms make the drive stable or just suppress the message?
ie
Code:

"video=vesa:off vga=normal"
ie would this be the cause of my KDE crashes?

I get the same message and the same KDE crashing problem. In addition I see the following message in the logs before the crash:

NVRM: Xid (0000:03:00): 56, CMDre 00000000 0000089c 0100cb13 00000007 00000000
NVRM: Xid (0000:03:00): 56, CMDre 00000000 0000089c 0100cb23 00000007 00000000

This is a bug in the proprietary drivers. See this.

Yeah, I found this first-hand. I never got any kind of warning, but I can't create an OpenCL context from terminal app. When I CTRL-ALT-F1 to tty1, log in, run the same app there, it corrupts a bit of the screen but the program succeeds. When I switch back to X, I can run the app in terminal successfully. Eventually, it reverts to being unable to create a context.

Is very stupid, IMHO.

I'm coming from 10.04, and I have found that I hate Unity, but MATE pulled most of my Gnome 2 settings.

I am writing an OpenCL app that aims to have platform-independent code (i.e. OpenCL, 32-64-bit agnostic), but my laptop has nVidia 8400M GS and recently upgraded to 12.04. Wasn't an issue until I wanted to program OpenCL.

Torvalds nailed it. :headexplode:

Does anyone how to make this change persistent? I installed Ubuntu 12.10 today (which was a pain in the ass since they enable nouveau drm by default which causes constant GPU lockups during boot/login), but after installing the nvidia driver package the vesafb console seems to still be enabled, giving me the same warning as the OP
