nVidia GeForceFX 5900 Ultra Owners Thread.
Out of curiosity I started this thread just to see how many guys & gals out there currently own GFX5900U cards. All 5900U powered nVidiacs are welcome to chat & discuss here, so here goes. Question number 1. Can anyone tell me whether Leadtek's v44.03 driver & nVidia's Detonator v44.03 have any difference between them?
I have a LeadTek 5900 256 Megs ULTRA...@stock 450/850 with CPU @ stock.
My 3DMARK 2003 was 5640/5678 with det 45.25.
I didn't use the Leadtek drivers. I spoke to Leadtek and because of the update I am using 45.25 Dets. (The current official one.)
Also can I add this question...has anyone played HALO. I want to know how does this game play on FX 5900 ULTRA? I am thinking of purchasing this game.
From what I've heard......
for a game that was released 2 years ago for a console running on a 733MHz CPU, 64MB RAM & a GPU somewhere in the league of GF3 or 4, u need a PC that is literally oozing with CPU power & a GPU thats faster than a speeding bullet just to run smoothly. Dude, do u know what NVSvc in MSConfig is for? I'm running on the 44.03 driver because 45.23 has some fog problems in Medal of Honor.
It runs great with the 52.13 drivers, but they gave me artifacts in Medal Of Honor, so...
Re: From what I've heard......
Also its great you created this thread, I was thinking about gettting a 5900 so this is very welcome to hear peoples view good or bad to help me before my purchase.
Well I own a 5900non ultra but slightly clocked (420/865) and just got halo today. I installed the patch and did a timedemo test at 1024x768x32. I scored 33 no idea if that's good or not as it's just cut scenes.

All I can say is the environment especially outdoors is pretty amazing with everything maxed but indoors is a different story. You will find that taking on 15-20 enemies slightly sad as your frame rate dips especially when you enter an indoor area (frame rate tends to slightly cut in half). Furthermore when you use the flashlight if you check the fps graph your frame rate is cut in half so you end up with something like 20fps which isn't to awesome.
Multiplayer is great but has a simple interface which makes you wonder what they did in those 2years of development other then re-writing the shaders...
Most people across the boards have been having bad halo performance so yeah, it's no just an isolated incident happening to one person. Apparently new dets offer a good increase in this game, just need to get my hands on them. (BTW I used 45.23)
Hope this helped, if you need anymore advice download the demo and see for yourself.
Think the leadtek driver just have some extra software to go with it. I am using a BFG tech 5900Ultra right now with 45.33 (flicker fixing) drivers.
Games like q3 and ET are best with this card, so I am very happy with it:)
FX 5900 Ultra here, and halo is nearly unplayable with current official detos. But then again, it seems like a ho-hum game so I rather play Max Payne 2 for good single player and Battlefield for great vehicle multiplayer.
My son is running an evga 5900U-I've noticed that with similar aa settings his 4x AA has more jaggies than my 9800nonpro and his dof is off with 8x af in :
See ya around.
Just downloaded the HALO Trial and it runs very nice (Detonator 45.23) on this ASUS V9950 Ultra...
'Almost' no stuttering or heavy/noticeble slowdowns...
HALO Trial only consists of The Silent Cartographer mission only though...
