Acer Aspire V3-571G-9686 Notebook

I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and order the following laptop from Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834215615

http://cdn2.sulitstatic.com/images/2...94e1eb3e82.jpg

For $699 (w/$150 instant savings) you get the following:
  • Intel Core i7 3632QM CPU
  • 6GB DDR3 Memory
  • NVIDIA Geforce GT 640M Graphics

Not a bad deal...

I cannot believe how affordable a decent gaming laptop has become in the last year.

You can check out the performance of the GeForce GT 640M here:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.71579.0.html

Quote:

The NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M is a mid-range, DirectX 11.1 compatible graphics card that was announced in the first quarter of 2012 for laptops. It is a Kepler-based GPU built on the GK107 architecture and is manufactured in 28nm at TSMC. The graphics card uses a 128-Bit wide memory interface with either the more common but slower DDR3 for VRAM or the more expensive and faster GDDR5.
Quote:

The gaming performance of the GeForce GT 640M equipped with DDR3 graphics memory lies somewhere in the former 2011 high-end category between the older GeForce GT 555M and GeForce GTX 460M. The performance is exceptionally good in shader-heavy DirectX 11 games and benchmarks. However, the 128-Bit memory interface can be a bottleneck if DDR3 graphics memory is used. In our tests, demanding games of 2011 like Battlefield 3 are playable in 1366x768 and medium settings. Less demanding games, such as Modern Warfare 3, are easily playable with maxed out settings and high resolutions.

Looks pretty decent!

When it comes in if you have time a review would be cool.

Roger that, but I'd like to keep it interactive meaning that I plan to follow up by continuing to post in this thread.

Laptop arrived today. Getting used to Windows 8, installing updates, removing bloat ware, installing apps.

Bummer is that there is one dead pixel on the display, which clearly shows up on a black background as red.

Other than that, I'm enjoying it.

The first set of benchmarks will be from the new 3DMark.

I've got a fractured collarbone (freak accident), so please bear with me...

Quick run before heading to bed.

OMG is all I can say right now on the Ice Storm test (for tablets and entry-level PCs).

This laptop may beat my desktop running at 2560x1600 with a GeForce GTX 680 with an older processor.

Also, dead pixel is no longer appearing!

Sorry about not posting recently, but my collarbone still hurts quite a bit. I'll have some Diablo 3 results shortly.
