budget build ,any more corners to cut?

apart from buying 2nd hand are there any cheaper options to get the same performance as the parts listed?

Asus P8H61-MX R2.0 Socket 1155
35
Casecom KM
22
OCZ ZS Series 650W 80+ Bronze PSU
60
Intel Core i5 3350P 3.10GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor
130 (this is the main thing I guess for encheapening)
Corsair 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance Memory
35
Seagate 1TB Desktop SSHD
70

so maybe swap i5 for

FX-6300
85
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Socket AM3+ VGA DVI HDMI 7.1 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard
40

would make it about 300 for a PC with no graphics card/os/kbm ect

Any more shaving or would this be a turd?

Hey XDanger. if you are going to do one of these upgrades some day, go with the ivy bridge. Being promised the r9 290 you were talking about, you can take advantage of pci-e 3.0 at a very cost efficent way. I never knew that h61 had pci-e 3.0. Take a look at my thread on haswell i5 vs. ivb core i7. Giving my brother the 3770k and asus mb for a core i5 haswell and a gigabyte haswell mb. Put it this way, I have owned the fx 8350 and the 3770k. Intel in this case takes the cake. GPU scaling itself is more efficent for intel cpu's being either a AMD or Nvidia card. BTW. I don't see why you don't just use 8gb of the corsair vengeance in your current system in the upgrade if you do go that way some day. also, no need to change the psu.

ps. I am waiting on the haswell refresh next year before going back up to core i7.

It shouldnt , What gives? 2x pci-e 2.0 crammed into 1 slot? Is it fully compliant?

here are the specs for that board below . It has 1-pci-e 3.0/2.0 x16 slot and 2 pci-e 2.0 1x slots. So, that board if you had it could make use of 1 pci-e 3.0 video card. Most use the 1x slot for network and sound cards.

*1: PCIe 3.0 speed is supported by Intel 3rd generation processors.

so not with a 2500k not that it would make any difference with 1 card atm

but you could plop the sandy bridge in that and upgrade to a ivy bridge when the money is there. You see, this is intel's 1st time at putting two cpu generations on one socket. And technically although there is no die shrink from 22nm coming, the haswell refesh reflects the same. And all of your other parts are still fine to use until the money is there to upgrade the rest. I am just trying to help you XDanger do good future ready upgrades on the cheap.

Uhhh... Here's a few I can think of in a few seconds.

7, 370, 775, 2011.

EDIT - Almost forgot Slot 1.

EDIT 2 - Oh and 478 as well. Can't forget those blasted Prescott (pressHOT) processors!

EDIT 3 - Sockets 3 and 5 too, Pentium overdrive chips FTW.

x4 750K looks like a cheaper alternative to the FX-6300 but with rubbish quadishness.

Re: budget build ,any more corners to cut?

XDanger, stay away from apu's or apu socketed cpu's. When I think APU I always think of laptop cpu's being put into the desktop world. Meaning underperforming. In other words, I agree x4 750k is quad rubbish.

Re: budget build ,any more corners to cut?

Yeah 750k is no good, FX-6300 is the best bet so far.

Is there a better @ multithreading CPU than the FX-6300 for the same price or less?
