Athlon XP is supported...with probs

The new XP 1600 I got for my bro works in his 8kta3+ just fine. But the USB won't work. He has a USB mouse and it works sporadically. I have the latest BIOS for the mobo, Intellipoint, and have tried messing with USB bios settings. Any ideas? Could this have to do with that ancient southbridge/overclocking/usb thing?

Have you tested the board with over USB devices? or Use the mouse with the PS/2 port to see if its the mouse just dying?

When my first M$ Laser mouse died it was long and slow. Would work fine for hours then just shut off, give it a min and it would come back on. took my a while to figure it was actually the mouse dying and not the USB port.

Very true, I had the same problem, then found some infomation on the net, fixed my mouse and is working like new. Thats something like 2.5-3years?

I tested his mouse in my computer and it seemed to work. I also gave him my mouse that I know works. I didn't think of trying other devices, I will throw a keyboard at him now.

...

It enraged him and I think that he mightqsdlfjafl33.ssa.f.

i had that exact problem with the intellimouse. its nothing to do with the board, but its the mouse's usb port. i don't know what it is but i guess some of the older intellimouses have a ****ty connections in the port.

Okay, I dumped some straight CLR on his USB connections. He decided to show me the finer points of handling a steak knife. I declined, but full of persistance he continued to instruct me. I am now safe, locked in my room, and waiting for the pounding to stop.
